Talking Womens Health with Dr. Naida

I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Dr. Naida, an OBGYN who has also branched out into featuring different Med spa treatments and procedures in her office. She has a focus on helping women feel good about themselves inside and out. Her services range from normal gynecological care to working with a team of aestheticians.

H:

What would you say is the number one concern your patients have when they come in for procedures?

Dr. Naida:
As an Ob/Gyn for so many years I have listened over and over again about symptoms like vaginal dryness, atrophy , urinary incontinence, pain with intercourse, and
vaginal relaxation (Especially after delivery). As a physician and a woman, I started this conversation and its like the floodgates have opened. Patients started sharing things with me they haven't told family members or friends. If not addressed these thoughts and symptoms can deeply  affect the emotional and physical health of my patients.
A long time ago I realized that empowering women to take control of their lives through better head to toe health and wellness is very important to me. When I came across these noninvasive laser technologies, especially CO2 RE INTIMA vaginal laser, it appeared to be a natural extension of what I do as gynecologist.
There is a broad spectrum of indications and needs, so I have some patients as young as their early 20s wanting "better tightness", women in their 20s and 30s "wanting to treat post- partum vaginal looseness and dryness, and older women with functional problems stemming from menopause. There is also External vulvar revision appealing more to patients in their late 30s and onward. They are unhappy with the labial laxity
and any discoloring occurring as a result of age related hormonal imbalance.
The vaginal laser technology treats this very well but it is the functional improvements in older women that are most profound.

H:
What is your favorite procedure to give your patients and also what is your favorite part of working with your patients?

Dr Naida:
I enjoy doing all procedures in my practice, especially ones that give true patient satisfaction. My favorite part of working with my patients has to be when they return after a conversation we have had about such issues as mentioned above. Often during those conversations, they believe there is nothing that can be done to help them and that these issues just come along with life and are just a natural part of the territory. I love when they return with positive feedback, stating that their life has been improved by our conversation. More and more I am doing intimate wellness procedures and I see firsthand. not just the aesthetics, but also the significant improvement in function.

H:
There have been tremendous technological advancements in the last ten years, how has that improved the way you can care for your patients?

Dr Naida:
For the last decade, there was an explosion in aesthetic technology- especially improved laser technology and we were able to deliver different modes of facial and body rejuvenation. As opposed in women's intimate wellness, we gynecologists had a range of surgical procedures or even laser but only used in removal of pathology lesions ( Warts or precancerous lesion.) In the last four years there have been emerging new laser technologies for vaginal and external vaginal treatment. For me it was an opportunity to offer  a non-invasive, nonsurgical, and painless solution to my patients. There is already a high interest in noninvasive intimate wellness solution, especially among older women who have the most experience with vaginal atrophy, thinning of vaginal lining and related diminished  function ( ie:painful intercourse, urinary incontinence, frequent vaginal infection). In the past, I had a very short list what I can offer to women. I could offer solutions like systemic HRT, local topical hormonal  and non hormonal creams and other novel medication with some side effects. I am excited to offer this therapy to women with breast cancer who could not use hormonal therapy, or (SIC) patients with other type of cancers with radiation and chemotherapy changing there hormone status. We know that cancer cases are rising every day, even among young women, where we can only imagine how devastating the impact can have on their vaginal changes and function on their psychological health, relationships and future fertility. I choose CO2 Re Intima vaginal rejuvenation technology because greater energy available and the proven pathology from the studies showing.

H:
If you had one piece of advice for someone who is thinking of having a procedure or treatment done, but are maybe nervous about doing it, what would you say?

Dr Naida:
I would say, don't worry, the actual treatment is quick, painless and effective. Not even requiring any anesthesia and the proof is in that our return rate for a second session has been 100%.

H:
You work with women as an OBGYN, what do you think some of the biggest challenges women face today as far as women’s health?

Dr Naida:
One of the biggest challenges women face are high stressors in their daily lives, coming from family, work, their environment.  Women are by nature multitaskers and so they find themselves constantly juggling a lot of different things at once. This has a negative impact on their health,  often forgetting about their own needs. As a gynecologist, most conversations are "Oh my son, my husband..work..etc", they forget that their health should also come first, Routine exams such as mammograms, pap smears get lost in their schedule so one can only imagine how little time they have to focus on their intimate needs.

H:
Talk to me about Vaginal Rejuvenation! What are the benefits and what is the recovery time like?

Dr Naida:
Vaginal Rejuvenation is definitely becoming more popular. Once a taboo that this was only rejuvenation for sexual improvement, research and proven patient results have shown that the symptoms such as vaginal dryness, atrophy are significantly improved. C02RE is a non invasive, non surgical procedure. Laser energy is delivered  through a tube called the articulated arm which is attached to a hygienic, single- use laser hand piece that inserted into the vaginal canal. The laser energy is gently delivered to the vaginal wall in a 360-degrees manner, stimulating a healing response that enhances moisture levels in the vaginal canal and results in the remodeling of the vaginal tissue fibers, thereby restoring their flexibility and shape.. After the procedure is done, patients can resume normal activities, but should refrain from sexual activity for 7 days. Treatments are usually 3 in office treatments that are spaced 3- 4 weeks apart.  Most C02RE Intima patients feel and see improvement after their first treatment, although the procedure calls for three treatments.

H:
I’m super intrigued by the concept of cool sculpting! Who would the ideal candidate be for a procedure such as this one and what does it entail?

Dr Naida:
The basic concept of Coolsulpting is Cryolypolysis which basically means, fat cells are frozen during the CoolSculpting procedure then they gradually die off and leave the body through the body’s natural elimination process. That’s why the results are long-term. Untreated areas will have no change in fat cell distribution. The ideal candidate for this procedure is a person who has stubborn fat that even with diet and exercise they can not get rid of such as in the stomach, flanks, back , legs or arms. There are more detailed factors that contribute to confirm if a patient is a candidate such as assuring they are medically fit. For final verification if a person is a candidate they need to come in for a free consult. In which we would  do a full assessment to determine if they are a candidate and what is the best individualized treatment plan for them.
