Boss Babes Tuesday: Amanda Bertoncini of 102.7 FM

I first saw Amanda Bertoncini few years ago on the hit Bravo show Long Island Princesses. As someone who grew up on Long Island, it was so fun to watch all of our local spots showcased as she and the ladies brought the drama. Recently I met Amanda at a Muses event in NYC and I was excited to have the opportunity to feature her as our Boss Babe of the week. These days she is rocking on the radio and shedding light on new brands and businesses. To learn more about her awesome career, read on below:

H:
Radio is such an exciting career, can you tell my readers a little more about what you do and how you chose this path?

A:

Radio is still very much alive. Now digital capabilities, which support what we do on-air, gives a 360 degree look at the station's atmosphere. This is very important for local markets. I had experience with product endorsements after appearing on Bravo in 2013. Business owners would reach out to me wanting a post with their product. I rarely said no because I had been in their shoes before with The Drink Hanky from 2009-2014.
For me it is important to support others when they are starting out. People in the entertainment business like to say you need to get paid in order to post, but that is not in my nature (Even if I were Lady Gaga status.) I've been there before and love seeing ambitious people focus on their dreams. When I started at CBS I was lucky to have a boss who believed in me. She gave me a segment called "The Tea with Amanda B", dishing all that is trending in the lifestyle genre. It was second nature for me to endorse products and 102.7 is exactly the demographic of my followers, Mostly women between 24-55 in the tri-state area.

H:
How do you find the brands you endorse?

A:
I have to say a lot of the brands I found were on Instagram. When you see sponsored posts it is because they are targeting people you follow or google searches you are predominantly looking at. This is a great way to find likeminded brands that fit my station's criteria. Using the right hashtags is also important. Those IG users searching for #athleisure clothing will see an array of posts for athleisure wear from well known brands to emerging ones. Also, when I attend events I write down the sponsors I see in my iPhone and do my research when I get home. Lastly, I keep my eyes open on the subways, outdoor advertising, local magazines and find the agencies that represent them.

H:
What tips do you have for brands looking to get noticed?

                                                            A:
For brands looking to get noticed, influencer marketing is definitely a no-brainer.  Finding the right influencer is super easy and I recommend using the Muses app. Shirley, the founder, was ahead of her time when she created the app. It is the best spot for influencers looking for collaborations and for brands looking for influencers. It is also a great platform to network with like-minded people. I made a ton of friends from their events and have learned a lot about the business of influencer marketing.

H:

On the flip side of things you also are an influencer, what tips do you have for women who are trying to work with brands?

A:

As an influencer, the best tips I can give is to maintain your social presence, identify what brands you work with and pick a specific genre, attend industry specific networking events and interact with your audience.

H:
Out of all the brands you have worked with on the radio, what has been the most interesting?

A:
That's a tough question because I find passion within each one. Just recently I had an exciting morning show segment with Bread Brothers Bagel Café on Bagel Emojicon Day. (Yes, that exists lol). Also, Shoudout is a new app where music meets social media. We are in a generation where being heard or seen is far more important then anything. The creator, Leo Abbe, was also ahead of his time when creating Shoudout because it is a new way to share your voice. Starting in November you will be able to participate with Shoudout & ALT 92.3 (a New York alternative station) in having a chance to get your message heard on-air as well as other fun promotions we will be having. Download the Shoudout app so you don't miss out!
