Boss Babes Tuesday: Jessica Duran of Bash and Company

Every once in a while Instagram's algorithm tosses you a truly amazing find. One day, while scrolling, I stumbled upon an account for a small company boasting amazing looking t-shirts. Right away I could tell that the quality of the fabric looked amazing and the designs were adorable- a combination I normally am not lucky enough to find. Bash and Company is the creation of California based mom of three, Jessica Duran. This week for Boss Babes Tuesday she shares her story:

What inspired you to start your own business?
J:
So many factors went into me wanting to start my own business.  I have always loved the term “Mom Life”. It has so much meaning rolled into two simple words. You can spot another mom at any given time and just say “Mom Life”. It is an understanding. It’s a lifestyle. Your child’s hair isn’t brushed today, “We understand”. Two different shoes, “We get it!
One day this idea struck me to make my own shirts. Find tee’s that I like. At the same time this could be my way to give back. If this is successful, I would be able to do something for myself and my family as well as helping others. I told myself, if I don’t take the plunge and do this now then I will never do it. I thought to myself “What do I have to lose?” So, I stepped out of my comfort zone and did it!
H:
As a mom, I know it can get crazy (Especially with three tiny humans!) Do you have any tips on how to keep things organized on the home front while tackling your dreams?
J:
My tip that that helps keep our household organized in order for me to follow my dream is, Routines! We are not super structured by any means, but with Littles you have to plan for some sort of leeway. Our meals are about the same time every day, and our most important routine is bed time! We make sure we have consistent bed times, so that when it is time, I can go do my work! That is my time to get things accomplished without interfering with my time with my kids. I do work throughout the day as well if we are home. If everyone is occupied, then I will sneak into my office and do some work.

H:
What is the biggest challenge you find yourself facing as a small business owner?
J:
Competing with larger, established companies that can sell items for less. Then balancing being a mom and running a small business at the same time. Because a small business is not your typical 9 – 5.

H:
As the owner of a business with a Internet based storefront, what are your tips for standing out amongst the crowd?
J:
Staying original, staying me, and consistently posting.

H:
I love that you donate 10% of the proceeds from each purchase. Do you have any particular charity you would like to share with us?
J:
I would love to share St. Baldrick’s. This is one of the four charities that I support. Let me start by saying Cancer SUCKS! Worldwide a child is diagnosed with cancer every 2 minutes, making that 300,000 kids a year. That alone is heartbreaking. In the US more children die of childhood cancer then any other disease. St. Baldrick’s is helping to fund the research to make the greatest impact on childhood cancer. And with that I wanted to help!
At  st.baldricks.org  anyone can donate directly, learn about there fundraisers, or just learn more about his wonderful charity.
